Igniting Hyper-Growth in Small & Medium Sized Businesses

Since 2000

Coupon Code Sites

Coupon Code Sites such as RetailmeNot, Knoji, DealSpotr.com and others have built substantial content sites around other business’s coupon codes, preying on others’ brand keywords to game SEO position. As a result, sales and customer service departments struggle to handle customers finding old, deprecated and even never-existent discount codes, resulting in a poor customer experience.

The depth of content and investment into these websites, effectively, make them “better” at SEO than many smaller retailers, showing up higher in SERPs than the brand itself. Similar to click arbitrage websites of the early 2000’s, it’s possible these sites will be dinged by Google at some point. For now, however, retailer’s are forced to find other ways to cope.

The letters to request profile removal from these sites had mixed results. Implementing smart SEO was step 2. We created a Coupon Code Policy page, targeting the brand name, combined with “Promos,” “Discount,” “Coupons" and similar keyword variations. In a matter of weeks, this newly optimized page, surpassed the ranked results from the Coupon Code Aggregators, leapt to #1 and intercepted the eyeballs previously headed in the wrong direction. This page also serves as another opportunity to craft a message to price-conscious customers, and now accounts for 8% of Google sales, as calculated under “Last Click” Attribution.
